Designers are 'craftsmen' and craftsmen are masters of technique in all its forms. But perhaps even more importantly, designers are also masters of when and why to use that technique. A true craftsman (m/f/x) can only be made in one way: by taking and receiving the time to truly become proficient in the depths of their craft.
A Studio is a learning environment where you focus on a specific design discipline such as Visual Design, Coding, Music or Game Design. You’ll work on challenges, self-initiated projects or other ways to deepen your knowledge, projects that are more focused on experimentation in a safe environment without clients. Throughout this process you’ll receive guidance and workshops from teachers that are well versed in the discipline themselves with plenty of time for one-on-one talks about your work.
You’ll work on your projects during the week, Tuesdays is reserved for workshops and other studio-specific learning activities.
From wednesday until friday you’ll be working on projects. This will be a combination of Studio projects that are more focused on learning the craft and (sometimes multidisciplinary) Client projects that teach you how to work on complicated projects for clients with a team. These will reflect the everyday practice and complications of working on bigger, complexer projects in a realistic setting.
Part of being a designer is taking a look at the wide field of design and our place in the world as designers. So while the Studio is all about the narrow view of a specific discipline Bildung aims to broaden our look at the world as a whole. That’s why every monday afternoon we’re taking a look at important aspects of that world.
