What is User Experience (UX) Design?

User Experience design is everywhere - you're probably looking at something that a UX designer fiddled with right now. Your phone, microwave, coffee machine, smart TV, todo-app and endless Tik-Tok stream all have elements that were designed by a UX Designer at some point in time. If you're lucky they talked to people about their needs and goals first, sketched out ideas, created a prototype and tested that before sending it off to development or if you're not they just threw some buttons against the wall and saw what sticked. So UX designers have quite some power in making the everyday digital tools you use to live your life well - but great power also comes with great responsibility like your friendly neighbourhood Spiderman found out once. So before we get to the shiny buttons and fancy designs we're starting with people.

The interactive design studio is all about designing (digital) interactive products that work for people within a specific context. It comprises of the fields user experience design (UX), user interface (UI) design and coding. UX is about how people perceive and respond to the use of a product, you will learn how to understand and influence this experience. UI design, on the other hand, focusses on the visual and interactive elements of a digital product. This also includes branding, typography, layouts & grids. Within this studio you’ll learn how to design digital products that fit the needs of your target audience (desirable), are feasible and will be a positive addition to the world.
